No meteorites hit Earth, no terrorists put the world in danger, no atomic war was started, but something did go wrong. Contact between most towns on Earth has been severed. A small ring-like area in Eastern Europe still has electricity, and maybe even life is being reported from the Space. What military forces find outside the Ring is shocking. There are dead corpses everywhere: in stores, in cars, on roads, in hospitals and railway stations. Scientists determine the cause of death to be a toxin produced by people's own bodies. Who or what is destroying all life on Earth? How long will the last outpost of mankind survive? This post apocalyptic thriller was produced by the creators of the Gogol cinematic series. Gogol.Origins, is the first series in wide cinema release, the first film of the project proved to be a major box-office hit in Russia in 2017.

Review:

This movie is by far no masterpiece, but I was still intrigued and entertained almost all the way through. Perhaps it's partially because I am allergic to the American action movies of today, which are all just plastic, empty, uncreative, gradually deteriorating, incestuous clones of one another and this Russian film offers slightly different solutions, visually and storywise. The dialogue is pretty bad at times (the English dub I watched because I couldn't get my hands on the original probably made it 50% worse) and the ending is very disappointing storywise but visually it's a cool movie, very athmospheric, great scenery, great action scenes. I know it's not a very high bar, but all in all it's still better than anything coming out of the US.

Would I recommend it? Yeah. If you don't expect greatness, you'll have a good time.
