Sequel to the classic The Fly has the son of the scientist who turned himself into a man-fly in that film deciding to follow in Dad's footsteps. Returning from the first movie is Vincent Price as the original Fly's brother. He fills the son in on what Dad was up to, which undermines any claim he has to being the only member of this family with common sense.

It's probably no surprise to anyone that this movie is not in the same league as its predecessor. As with most sequels, it doesn't try hard to be different, just repeat what worked before. Only in black & white instead of color and with more of a B movie feel. I do love the opening - the funeral, the storm, the visit to the laboratory. Beyond that there's not much atmosphere or a feeling that this could be a better than average sci-fi or horror movie. As far as sequels to classics goes, it could be worse. But make no mistake this isn't close to being as original, suspenseful, or entertaining as The Fly.

Brett Halsey is the lead but Vincent Price is the only real star here. Price could read the phone book and I'd watch so it'll probably come as no shock that I say he's the best part of this. Danielle De Metz is a beautiful love interest but offers nothing beyond that. Veteran Dan Seymour has a slimy supporting part. The rest of the cast leaves little impression. The special effects are cheap but not distractingly so. The lab set is vintage 'mad scientist' but that's a good thing in my book. It's not bad for a somewhat schlocky B movie but there's not much meat on the bone.
