A secret mission. A horrifying discovery. The countdown to terror has begun! In 2004 billionaire astronaut Eli Cologne was the first man to land on Mars, but the mission went horribly wrong. Infected by an alien organism, he returned to Earth as a mutated monster with an unquenchable thirst for human flesh. Cologne Space Labs scientist Dr. Martine Munro was in charge of the Mars Mission and Eli Cologne's secret lover. Now that she's received a signal from the transmitter on the lost space craft, she and a few bumbling, nerdy scientists head to the sleepy town of Black Bayou in search of the lost astronaut. For small town sheriff Dick Ruffman, it's a race against time to find the man-turned-monster before he kills again in this horrifying and hilarious satire of low budget drive-in grindhouse movies from the 1970's.

"First Man on Mars" doesn't know why people love old low budget horror movies, it tries to inject comedy in an awful B movie, it doesn't work, parodies like these almost never work, the only ones that work are effective because there is actual comedic talent behind them, like in "Black Dynamite" or "The Kentucky Fried Movie", most of the time we get lazy trash like this, don't they know that B movies are funny because they are genuine?

Of course everything in this movie is awful, from the acting to the writing and uses the usual excuse of "its a parody of crappy movies" to be crappy unapologetically, I can stand a low budget movie made with love for schlocky trash flicks but it at least needs to be funny in some way.
