Nothing Really Happens is a film about a man whose life starts to slowly fall apart, punctuated by a series of increasingly surreal occurrences. The lead character, and the audience, strive to make sense of why things are spiraling out of control and find an overarching meaning behind the bizarre people and interactions in front of them.
The story is a unique one that blends genres like comedy, drama, and even sci-fi. I became very invested in the plot and was eager to learn more about what was real, imagined, or otherwise in this cinematic world. I also greatly appreciated that the film had just the right amount of humor to add some levity along the way. The joke where the phone wait time jumped from "7 people ahead of you" to 12 made me laugh out loud. Being on hold like that is the worst haha!
If you're tired of watching the same types of films, do yourself a favor and check out the unique storytelling in Nothing Really Happens.
